Program Coordinator (15 Hours/Week)

NAMI Central Iowa is seeking a part-time Program Coordinator, working out of the NAMI Central Iowa main office at 424 – 5th Street, Ames, IA  50010.  Cover letter and resume deadline: Mon. , Nov. 30th at NOON.

Summary:  The Program Coordinator works with staff and volunteers to provide coordination and assistance to the NAMI Central Iowa signature programs including: NAMI CI Wellness Center, Family-to-Family, Basics, Family & Friends, Peer-to-Peer, In Our Own Voice, Family Support Groups, Ending the Silence, Connections Support Groups, SMARTS, Provider and Sharing Your Story with Law Enforcement.

The Program Coordinator will coordinate trainings, assist and or lead trainings as requested, data collection, coordination of resources, and awareness outreach to the community and service provider collaborators.

Hours:  Part-time, 15 hours a week in the afternoons. Some evening / weekend hours may be required.

NAMI Central Iowa is a small non-profit grassroots organization whose mission is to provide education, support, and advocacy for individuals and families affected by serious mental illness. We provide our services to the 11-county CICS mental health region.  We do not provide direct clinical services or therapy.  www.namicentraliowa.org

Skills needed:

  • Lived experience with mental health conditions
  • Strong writing and verbal communication skills
  • Computer proficiency: Word, PowerPoint, Microsoft Excel, Internet, Google Suite, ZOOM, and email, and social media platforms
  • Empathetic listening skills
  • Attention to detail and ability to be flexible and work well with deadlines
  • Strong organizational skills; experience in program coordination
  • Ability to work well with small team, work independently and a self-starter
  • Strong presentation, training, public speaking, and leadership skills
  • Experience with program and/or grant monitoring desirables
  • Experience with fundraising or grant-writing, a plus
  • Ability and willingness to travel throughout service area, at times, requiring use of a personal vehicle;

 

Job responsibilities include:

  • Coordinate, recruit, and screen potential volunteer teachers and participants
  • Maintain documentation on program, awareness, and outreach activities
  • Serve as liaison and provide administrative and logistical support for NAMI education programs and support programs
  • Administer and collect program evaluations; summarize results
  • Plan, develop and implement the annual volunteer recognition event
  • Administrative tasks
  • Data collection and reporting
    • Maintain lists of class participants for education programs, including current class lists and waiting lists
    • Collect program data from teachers and facilitators and send to affiliate data-collector as well as NAMI Iowa
    • Collect program data on calls/emails
    • Produce monthly data reports
  • Answer calls and respond to email requests
  • Plan speakers for classes
  • Assist as needed for special events related to advocacy and awareness
  • Coordinate education forums and special programs as requested
  • Communication, assistance and encouragement to current volunteers
  • When necessary, oversee the operation of NAMI Central Iowa in the absence of the Executive Director
  • Provide a hospitable and safe environment, maintaining confidentiality
  • Assist with cleaning of the NAMI Central Iowa Wellness Center & offices
  • Become certified to conduct NAMI signature programs, such as, Connections Support Group, Peer-to-Peer, In Our Own Voice, Ending the Silence, and or NAMI SMARTS and other applicable signature programs
  • Active participation in all programs, special events and fundraising projects;
  • Other duties as assigned

 

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Ability to pass criminal, child & dependent adult abuse background checks
  • Maintain a valid driver’s license and auto liability insurance
  • Computer proficiency: Word, PowerPoint, Microsoft Excel, Internet, Google Suite, ZOOM, and email, and social media platforms
  • Lived experience with mental health conditions

 

Working Conditions:

  • Office / desk environment
  • Occasionally exposed to outside weather conditions
  • Some travel required
  • Afternoon hours
  • Work closely with individuals living with mental health conditions
  • Occasional evenings or weekends as needed
  • Occasionally lifts, carries or otherwise moves and positions objects weighing up to 10-50 pounds
